The Many Faces of René Pawlowitz

It’s been just about two weeks since my last post, and I figured what better time to update than 3:15AM from my couch, on a Friday night, after 8 hours of consecutive studying (things have been a little crazy). To stay sane, I’ve been listening to a lot of René Pawlowitz, better known as Shed, and arguably my favorite techno producer. A few weeks ago, I found out from one of my readers that Shed has produced some great tracks under various other names, releasing many tracks on his own vinyl-only labels. The list is long because all these tracks are awesome. I love this guy.

Seeing Trentemoller Live: My Life Is Complete

Ok. So I saw Trentemoller play live for the first time ever last Friday in NYC at Webster Hall. I’m really not much of a fan of the venue – the layout and mediocre sound  – but it’s Trentemoller. Venue comments aside, it was the best concert I’ve ever been to. Hands down. I originally thought my life was complete when I got to meet the man himself after a DJ set at Cielo, but nothing can ever top hearing “Moan” come to life right before your eyes (and ears). Here’s a video (that I did not take).

Trentemoller Gets Lost In The Void

Ahead of their forthcoming debut album Alive in Us, Darkness Falls has released a remix album of the single “The Void”. Trentemoller has granted us two remixes, a more upbeat club remix and his piano version. While I love the more analog/acoustic sound he’s been leaning towards in his live acts, it’s always great to hear him from the studio: tight bass lines, sweeping drops, I could go on forever. The piano version seems to be more reflective of his recent live interests: acoustic and emotional. Listen, they’re both really damn good.

Oh, and the original is also incredible – more proof that the Danes know best when it comes to electronic pop. Very excited to listen to the full release.

Kollektiv Turmstrasse’s “Tristesse” Remixed

German trio Wareika have just released Per Aspera Ad Astra (through hardships to the stars), an interpretative remix album. Some of the names included are GusGus, Lopazz, Kasper Bjorke, and my favorite: Kollektiv Turmstrasse. Arguably their finest masterpiece, “Tristesse” is a beautiful tale of hope and despair, with delicate melodies building to an incredible drop. In all honesty, no remix could even compare to the original. But in this case, Wareika have taken the song in another direction, giving it a more interpretative, spur-of-the-moment, and emotionally ambiguous feel. It doesn’t try to compare to the original, and in doing so, does a solid job. Oh, and the remix of Kasper Bjorke’s “Go Away Song” is awesome.
