In Loving Memory: Kurt Kroeger

A dear friend of mine and fellow music lover passed away this weekend. He was an inspiration and I’m sure my musical tastes would have been much more boring without him. While a public blog post is no place for a eulogy, I at least wanted to dedicate a post to him and his three favorite songs of all time.

U2 – Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
The Cure – Fascination Street
Depeche Mode – In Your Room

On Da Floor With Redshape

For their 30th release German label “Running Back” features the phantom of Techno, Berlin’s infamous Redshape. It’s deep, smooth, raw and slightly haunting.

Robag Wruhme’s Donnerkuppel

Robag Wruhme has just released an incredible EP on Kompakt. I’ve been hearing “Donnerkuppel” for quite some time in his live sets, and am relieved to finally know what it is! It’s tech-house at its best: melodic, upbeat and grooving. Can’t wait to see him and Koze in two weeks.

Marcel Dettmann’s Conducted

Marcel Dettmann‘s latest commercial mix Conducted has been released for only a few days and I’ve already listened to it more than 10 times. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s probably one of the nicest guys in the scene, but there’s always something highly personal when listening to any of his mixes. Conducted blends purist techno from all eras, known and unknown. It’s a gentleman’s mix (I don’t know how that came to mind, but I like it).

Sandwell District – Immolare (First)
Signal – Wismut
Roman Lindau – Sub Suggestion
Mono Junk – Channel B
Reel By Real – Sundog
Blue Moon Productions – Night
The Analogue Cops – Why You Love Me
Vril – V3
Milton Bradley – Don’t Phonk
Silent Servant – El Mar
Morphosis – Too Far
Redshape – The Lesson
Shed – Hello Bleep!
Cheeba Starks presents The Toupe Committee – GoGo Bop (A Trip To The Bodega)
O/V/R – Post-Traumatic Son (Ben Klock Wave Mix)
FBK – Nanomal
Answer Code Request – Escape Myself
Shed – 44A (Hard Wax Forever!)

Don’t Put Maya Jane Coles In Your Box

Maya Jane Coles’ latest EP, Don’t Put Me In Your Box, is set for release any day now on Hypercolour Records. This will mark her final 12″ before her debut album, set for release next year (this is very exciting). This latest EP again demonstrates Maya’s incredible production skills: rich bass, uplifting melodies and soothing vocals.
