Memories of Traffic circa 2000.
Been listening to “Instrumental Hip Hop” this week, and this track brought me straight back to high school.
Over the last two years, it’s been a huge pleasure being able to play all of my favorite tunes over the radio. It’s only now, sitting here back at home in LA while browsing my library and grabbing some awesome new tunes that I realize just how much I’m going to miss going on air every week. But at least I’ll still have the blog. For those of you who listened, thank you! As I said all too much on air, I hope you enjoyed.
For my last show, I wanted something special. The Friday before the show, I gathered a few of my favorite friends to see both Maceo Plex and Maya Jane Coles for our last “big night out.” It was the perfect way to end our college journey: at an outdoor downtown location with views over the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges. After the party, we walked back home through New York’s financial district, completely deserted at 3AM, walking through the city liked we owned it. I wanted my last radio show to be a continuation of that night.
Kai did what he does best (besides hugging), playing deep and uplifting house that would pull even the deepest sleepers out of hibernation and into the summer air. For myself, I wanted to keep it simple: play my favorites old and new. Thank you Kai. Thanks for listening. Thank you friends. And thanks for making these past years unforgettable.

German trio Wareika have just released Per Aspera Ad Astra (through hardships to the stars), an interpretative remix album. Some of the names included are GusGus, Lopazz, Kasper Bjorke, and my favorite: Kollektiv Turmstrasse. Arguably their finest masterpiece, “Tristesse” is a beautiful tale of hope and despair, with delicate melodies building to an incredible drop. In all honesty, no remix could even compare to the original. But in this case, Wareika have taken the song in another direction, giving it a more interpretative, spur-of-the-moment, and emotionally ambiguous feel. It doesn’t try to compare to the original, and in doing so, does a solid job. Oh, and the remix of Kasper Bjorke’s “Go Away Song” is awesome.
I know I’ve been quite slow with new posts, but coming back to the US + starting work has made things slightly more difficult. Hopefully this mix makes the delays worth it! The tracklist was chosen mostly by my brother Beau (inspired partly by Robag Wruhme’s RA Podcast). Thanks to Smoochey for introducing me to the term. My simplest of mixes, hope you enjoy.
Sprezzatura: an Italian word originating from Castiglione’s The Book of the Courtier, where it is defined by the author as “a certain nonchalance, so as to conceal all art and make whatever one does or says appear to be without effort and almost without any thought about it.”

As if I haven’t been loving the man enough lately, Gabor has just done an absolutely stunning mix for XLR8R’s podcast series. It’s a follow-up mix to his morning mix for RA (I didn’t post it, but definitely check it out, a perfectly eclectic mix to get your day going). This XLR8R mix is the “good night” mix. As XLR8R puts it: “In short, this isn’t a session for the dancefloor. Instead, Wruhme pieces together soothing, melodic pieces pulled from the far corners of the musical spectrum, be it experimental ambient works, film scores, or symphonic classical pieces.” It’s an incredibly powerful and emotional journey, an orchestra for your dreams.
